Oi! Yoi! Studio is a community creative space in Missoula, MT, opened by Rio Chantel Harris. The space occupies an old church, and was opened with the mission of creating an accessible and welcoming community space for creatives to collaborate and celebrate their work. The name, inspired by Rio’s great grandmother and a diary entry she made during the great depression, is intended to evoke joy and an appreciation for her community.

I partnered with Rio to create a visual identity for the space that honors the spirit of her great grandmother, Dr. Sue, and celebrates community as she did in her long life. A custom stacked wordmark is paired with an artichoke graphic that is inspired by art deco design of the 1920’s and 30’s, in a stained glass style that nods to the former church it inhabits. The brand lives in a color palette that is both vibrant and artsy, grounded and alive.
